Prayer for Healing

Փարատեա՛ զցաւս եւ բժշկեա՛ զհիւանդութիւնս ի ժողովրդենէ քումմէ, Տէր Աստուած մեր, եւ շնորհեա՛ ամենեցուն զկատարեալ առողջութիւն, նշանաւ ամենայաղթ խաչիւ քով, որով բարձեր զտկարութիւն ազգի մարդկան եւ դատապարտեցեր զթշնամին կենաց եւ փրկութեան մերոյ: Դո՛ւ ես կեանք մեր եւ փրկութիւն, բարերար եւ բազումողորմ Աստուած, որ միայն կարող ես թողուլ զմեղս եւ մերժել զախտս եւ զհիւանդութիւնս ի մէնջ, որում յայտնի են պէտք կարեաց մերոց: Պարգեւի՛չդ բարեաց, պարգեւեա՛ զառատ ողորմութիւնս քո ի վերայ արարածոց քոց՝ ըստ իւրաքանչիւր պիտոյից. յորոց հանապազ փառաւորեալ գովի Ամենասուրբ Երրորդութիւնդ. այժմ եւ միշտ եւ յաւիտեանս յաւիտենից. Ամէն։
Տեր Աստուած մեր, փարատիր ցաւերն ու բժշկիր հիւանդութիւնները քո ժողովրդից եւ շնորհիր բոլորին կատարեալ առողջութիւն՝ քո ամենայաղթ խաչիդ նշանով, որով մարդկութեան տկարութիւնը կրեցիր և դատապարտեցիր մեր կեանքի եւ փրկութեան թշնամուն: Դուն ես մեր կեանքն ու փրկութիւնը, բարերար եւ բազումողորմ Աստուած: Միայն Դու կարող ես ներել մեր մեղքերը եւ մեզանից հեռացնել ախտերն ու հիւանդութիւնները, որին յայտնի են մեր կարիքները: Բարիքներ պարգեւող, առատ ողորմութիւնդ պարգեւիր քո արարածներին՝ իւրաքանչիւրին ըստ իր կարիքի: Եւ նրանց միջոցով միշտ թող գովաբանուի Ամենասուրբ Երրորդութիւնդ. այժմ, միշտ եւ յաւիտեանս յաւիտենից: Ամէն:
Dispel the pain and heal the sickness of thy people, Lord our God and grant to all perfect health by the sign of thine all-conquering cross through which thou removed the weakness of mankind and condemned the enemy of our life and salvation. Thou art our life and salvation, beneficent and all merciful God, who alone can forgive us our sins and remove diseases and sickness from us, to whom are known our needs and necessities. Bestower of gifts, grant thy bounteous mercy to thy creatures according to their individual needs, through whom thy Holy Trinity is always glorified and praised, now and always and forever and ever.
I always call on the Lord with this Prayer for Healing when I visit those who are ill, whether at home or in the hospital. This prayer is widely used among all Armenian clergy. When we pray to our Heavenly Father on behalf of others, our prayers fill up with a vibrant resplendency. Our unselfish hearts bear a purity that pours forth into these prayers for others. I remember growing up in Lebanon, when we heard the piercing sound of a passing ambulance siren, our pious grandmothers would immediately cross themselves and call aloud to the Lord, “O Lord! Save everyone in need, protect all the children, and at the end remember ours, too.” We children felt the intensity of the emotion with which our grandmothers prayed to our Heavenly Father, first and foremost for the protection of others, remembering their own children only secondarily. There was no selfishness in these humble, devout servants of the Lord as they offered their fervent prayers with an oversized love that embraced all humankind. Their pure and faithful souls left an enduring impression.
It’s food for thought in today’s world; we can all take a lesson from these saintly,
elder women.
